  • What went wrong here?

I mean, I know exactly what went wrong. I wanted polenta. Really, all I wanted was polenta, and I felt the need to justify it with a protein and all I had was ground beef, originally intended for burgers.

And it wasn’t even good ground beef like we’ve getting from the butcher at Eastern Market; it was sad tasteless ground beef from the grocery store.

We’re off to a bad start here already.
Now, I’m out of butter, so I’m sautéing onions in oil, and thinning out the polenta with 1% milk (okay, and a little heavy cream, but not enough to save it). I’ve set myself to an Indian recipe without tomatoes or cilantro, but I think I’m going to save it with cumin and turmeric and cayenne, but I keep tasting the meat and it has no flavor, so I’m burying it in spice, and I end up over-doing it on the cayenne.

We start our fire-breathing meal and the not-enough-cream polenta is not providing any respite, so we end up dumping sour cream on it.

Basically, what I’m saying, is I need to go to the market. :(
